Extension and Modifications to a Family Home Approved in Chelmsford

We are delighted that Chelmsford City Council has approved planning permission for a large extension and modifications to a family home in the rural area within Essex.

The application site comprises a large two storey detached house located within a small hamlet to the north of Chelmsford that lies immediately to the west of a Grade II* Listed Church.

The Proposed Extension

The existing home was poorly laid out and did not efficiently utilise the internal space. The homeowners sought modifications to their home to improve the functionality of the ground floor area.

The proposed improvements and modifications to the property included:

  • The creation of a home office within the roof space of the existing garage, with alterations to create a new gable feature.

  • Extensions to the existing garden room, with external alterations to improve its appearance.

  • The introduction of a link from the main house, connecting to the garage and garden room to create a single ground floor space.

  • An enlarged utility room.

The design of the extensions and modifications were carefully considered to ensure that they remained subservient to the main dwellings and would not adversely affect the setting of the neighbouring Listed church.
