Modifications to a Bungalow on Mersea Island

The Project Brief:

ADP were instructed by the applicant to help them achieve planning for a number of alterations and extensions to their existing bungalow dwelling on Mersea Island, Essex. These included modifications to the external appearance, internal alterations, a new garage, garden building and log store. The proposals sought to modernise a tired bungalow, to adapt the building to better suit the applicant’s family needs.

The Planning Approach:

Our planning and design team assessed the context, setting, and aspirations of our client and put together a proposal that gave the scheme the best possible chance of success in planning terms.

Our design approach resulted in extensions and alterations which referenced the Essex vernacular, whilst responding specifically to the character of Mersea, but with a modern interpretation, through using local materials interspersed with glass links.

For the planning application submission, we put together detailed plans, elevations and sketches and clearly presented the benefits of this project and how the development responded to the relevant policies and planning considerations.

We then engaged proactively with the Council and their planning officers throughout the planning process. We were delighted that Colchester Borough Council approved this scheme for extensions and alterations.
