Colchester Call for Sites 2023 - Consultation

Call for Sites: A Guide to Submitting Land for Development in Colchester

The Colchester City Council is reviewing its local plan and calling on landowners, developers, and community members to propose sites for future housing, employment, infrastructure, and open space uses. This process, known as the ‘call for sites’, allows stakeholders to suggest land they believe is suitable for allocation in the local plan update.

By participating, landowners land developers can put forward sites to Colchester City Council’s planning department to assess based on suitability, availability, and achievability. The sites will be published in a strategic land availability assessment that informs site allocations in the eventual local plan.

The Colchester Call for sites consultation ends on 5 January 2024.

Who Can Submit Sites?

The call for sites is open to all interested parties, including:

  • Local residents

  • Landowners

  • Developers

  • Community groups

  • Businesses

What Types of Sites Should I Put Forward?

Colchester City Council is seeking sites for:

  • Housing - market, affordable, older persons, self-build, etc.

  • Employment Land - offices, manufacturing, warehousing, research, etc.

  • Commercial Uses - retail, leisure, hotels, etc.

  • Community Facilities - health, education, etc.

  • Green Infrastructure - parks, playgrounds, allotments, woodlands, wildlife habitat etc
