Planning Approval Secured for New Rural Stables in Colchester, Essex
We’re delighted to share that planning permission has been successfully secured for a new stable building in the countryside beyond Colchester, Essex.
This project was brought forward on behalf of a private client seeking to enhance their rural property with a high-quality, sensitively designed equestrian facility for personal use.
Replacing a Redundant Barn with a Purpose-Built Stable Block
The approved development replaces an existing but redundant barn that occupied the site.
By redeveloping this land and maintaining the established agricultural character of the area, the proposal offered a sustainable and policy-compliant way to improve the functionality of our client’s land.
The new building includes:
8 no. stable pens
A dedicated store area
A traditional Essex barn form with a central gable
Black timber cladding and a durable metal roof
The design takes direct inspiration from the region’s vernacular agricultural architecture.
Its simple massing, dark cladding, and modest profile ensure it fits comfortably into its rural surroundings while delivering modern equestrian accommodation tailored to the needs of the client.
A Positive Rural Enhancement
Given the countryside location, careful consideration was required to demonstrate that the proposal respected local planning policies, preserved the rural character of the area, and provided a clear improvement over the ageing structure it replaced.
The approved scheme delivers a high-quality, sympathetic, and functional stable block that supports responsible land use and enhances the wider setting.
